'STEM Professionals and K-12 Schools': Volunteering in high schools (Clip)

May 03, 2011

At an April event, “STEM Professionals and K-12 Schools: Partnerships for Change,” the teachers and volunteers in Middle Schools and High Schools, from the Senior Scientist and Engineers organization, talked about how to get students interested in science.

The ways a scientist or engineer assistant can be useful to the older grades are discussed, and the differences between the grades and schools. They also discussed why teachers may not want a volunteer and how to change that.

The Senior Scientists and Engineers organization works to bring retired scientists and engineers into classrooms as volunteer assistants for the teachers, and the panel discussed the pros and cons of this assistance for the teacher, the scientist and the students.
