'STEM Professionals and K-12 Schools': Elementary school challenges (Clip)

May 03, 2011

Senior Scientists and Engineers, a AAAS partner organization, focuses on bringing retired scientists and researchers into classrooms to help teachers. In an April event, “STEM Professionals and K-12 Schools: Partnerships for Change,” teachers and members of this organization were part of a panel discussing the program and its benefits and challenges.

In this video, elementary school teachers and volunteers talk about the challenges of elementary school. A fourth grade teacher talks about how to cover large science subjects in a short amount of time, and how a volunteer can help with all subjects, not just science. And an elementary school science teacher talks about teaching a variety of grades and the benefit of having an extra expert and helper in the classroom.
