Among the STEM disciplines—science, technology, engineering and mathematics—engineering has historically blurred the lines separating education and training, school and work. As a profession that has honored the baccalaureate as the entry-level degree, engineering has sought to expose students to the rigors of the (typically corporate) workplace as part of their preparation for the job.
