Bart De Stasio takes on toxic algae
June 6, 2013FREE CONTENTToxic algal blooms brought on by the increase in invasive species is the basis for the research in AAAS member Bart De Stasio's lab. He is studying zebra mussels which promote blooms of algae in the bay of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Ironically, he's identified another invasive species that can eat the algae without succumbing to the toxins. -
F1000Research journal wants to publish more negative results
June 5, 2013FREE CONTENTThe biology and medicine journal F1000Research is waiving article fees through August for papers that include negative results. Is this a bad thing? If scientists don’t publish an experiment’s negative results then other scientists can easily believe that the experiment has never been tried.
