    Bart De Stasio takes on toxic algae
    Toxic algal blooms brought on by the increase in invasive species is the basis for the research in AAAS member Bart De Stasio's lab. He is studying zebra mussels which promote blooms of algae in the bay of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Ironically, he's identified another invasive species that can eat the algae without succumbing to the toxins.
    Update on NSF political science research
    On June 7 the National Science Foundation issued a guidance memo detailing how it would implement a provision in its FY2013 appropriations bill that restricts the awarding of political science grants to those that contribute to national security or economic interests.
    The spirit of science and debate

However, hearing the arguments raised by climate change skeptics taught her, and her students, to find the middle ground, rather than resorting to the "childlike" stubborn behavior of digging in their heels.
    F1000Research journal wants to publish more negative results
    The biology and medicine journal F1000Research is waiving article fees through August for papers that include negative results. Is this a bad thing? If scientists don’t publish an experiment’s negative results then other scientists can easily believe that the experiment has never been tried.
